  Join us for a beautiful bike ride on the Wm. Lloyd Garrison Trail and Salisbury's Ghost and Marsh trails . The Garrison Trail follows Route 95 across the John Greenleaf Whittier Bridge over the Merrimack River offering beautiful views of the river below and an island in the middle of the river. The other trails are mostly wooded stretching as far as the Seabrook NH line. Trails are both paved and hard packed and stone dust but suitable for all bikes. Trail will be about 12-15 miles round trip

   Meet at Newburyport Park and Ride: 150 Storey Ave, Newburyport

  From I-95 take the Route 113 East exit, then turn left into the Park & Ride. Follow the road to the northern end of the parking lot for the best parking.  Look for the orange Subaru!

  We hope you can join us for a short (about 13 miles round trip) bike ride on the beautiful Neponset River Greenway.  The Greenway winds through the Neponset River valley as it goes from UMass/Boston to Tenean Beach to Mattapan Square.  We'll enjoy views of downtown Boston, the old fashioned trolley car running from Ashmont to Mattapan, the historic Baker's Chocolate building dating to 1765, murals galore, a boardwalk suspended along the Neponset River and plenty of history. The Greenway is fully paved and is suitable for all bikes.

  Directions to Pope John Paul II park ( back parking lot) which is also the parking area Waze and google use:  Look for the orange Subaru!

  Meet at Mary W's house for the Fall Foliage Bike Ride, 20 and 10-mile options. Bike through Carlisle, Concord and Bedford for 20 miles of mostly flat with some gently rolling hills, two hills a little more than rolling.  The 10-mile ride is mostly flat with some gentle hills. The scenery is lovely as we ride through wooded landscapes, trees usually still with lots of color.

  There are some horse farms, the North Bridge where the “shot heard round the world” was fired, and other vistas, all with wonderful landscaping and great company!

  Sorry but no ice cream shops are open along the ride.

  • Helmets required, spare tube and water bottle. Tail light or blinker recommended.

  There will be a potluck at Mary’s after the ride. She doesn’t orchestrate any of the food, but after all these years, no one has left hungry. Please bring lawn chairs.

  Start your TOHG 2025-26 ski season at the AMC Highland Center Lodge! Located just two miles from the Bretton Woods ski resort, which features downhill and cross-country terrain. Stay 1, 2, 3 or all 4 nights.

  For those who have attended previously, please pay attention to these instructions as some details have changed!

  The Highland Center is one of the many lodges operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club. All rooms being held for the TOHG have private baths and are typically located on the second or third floor with beautiful views. Elevator and bag carts are available at the main entrance. Lots of parking within a short walk from the main entrance.  Free wi-fi is included, but no TV.

  There is also a large guest dining room where we can gather for all meals. There's a small gift shop and game room. The Highland Center offers complimentary LL Bean gear for us to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis. The gear room is usually stocked with boots, outerwear, backpacks, hiking poles, and snowshoes, but they do not have any Cross-Country skiing equipment. Inquire at the desk when you arrive.

  It's also worth mentioning their ample sitting room with a gaslit fireplace that is always glowing. Great for reading, socializing, puzzles and games.  

  Additionally, a separate private space will be provided for our daily après-ski gathering. Bring your favorite snacks and non-alcoholic drinks to share. Alcoholic drinks are available for purchase on premises during meal hours.

   Watch for TOHG hiking opportunities in the area sometimes led by other TOHG leaders who attend this trip. They will announce how to register and plan for these additional activities.

  IMPORTANT: You may reserve after that date, but you may not be assured a private room. More importantly, by calling their number and not booking online, the AMC can properly quote TOHG special pricing and prepare for our group with room assignments together and dining room arrangements.

  Payment in full is required when you reserve. If you are room sharing, you must designate one person to charge the room and then split the cost among yourselves.

  Lift Tickets:

  Lift tickets and downhill ski passes will be available online at brettonwoods.com. Various discounts offered to Seniors. If you plan to cross-country, call 603-278-3322 to check on cross-country trail conditions, rentals and pricing at the Nordic Center (trails and center located at the Mt. Washington Omni Hotel).

  The “Beast of the East” Killington Ski Area will once again be our destination. Everyone can enjoy 5 to 6 days of downhill or cross-country skiing and relax in the evenings at The Mountain Inn (mtinn.com).

  Killington is one of the largest ski areas in the eastern U.S. (killington.com), with 155 trails for all abilities (28% easier, 33% more difficult, 39% most difficult). Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are available less than 30 min away at Mountain Top Inn in Chittenden, VT, or Woodstock Country Club.

  Located just minutes from the base of the mountain, The Mountain Inn is a modern, rustic hotel. It provides a private shuttle bus for guests only that runs on a regular loop to Snowshed base area and also can be called as needed.

  The Mountain Inn is holding a block of rooms with 2 queen beds, mini-fridge, TV, and Wi-Fi. The amenities at the Inn include a convenient ski storage area, outdoor heated pool, bar, full-service restaurant, and is home to the Killington Distillery. We also can gather for an après-ski in the upstairs common space.

  Week-night dinners will be at a restaurant of your choice - you can dine at the Inn where they specialize in farm-to-table offerings made with locally sourced ingredients or at one of many local restaurants. We will organize at least one group dinner nearby.

  We will be staying at the recently renovated Black Bear Lodge, located just minutes from Stratton Village and ski lifts. A shuttle is provided for guests only, with drop-off at the lifts. Cross-country ski and snowshoe trails are 15 minutes from the lodge. Stratton mountain has 99 trails - beginner to challenging steeps and everything in between.   Black Bear Lodge amenities include a hot tub, sauna, and The 43.1 Restaurant on site where the complementary breakfast is served. The nearby fitness center also has a heated pool (additional charge $25.00 per day) and is a short trip on the shuttle. Shuttle service runs ½ hour before lifts open to 10pm.

  Black Bear Lodge is holding a block of 10 Rooms with 2 queen beds per room. Rooms have a coffee maker and mini refrigerator.  Monday night we will have a welcome dinner. Weeknight dinners will be at the restaurant of your choice (easily accessible by walking or shuttle). We also will be hosting après ski gatherings every afternoon in a dedicated room for the gang.

  Prospect Mountain maintains more than 30 kilometers of trails. When the snow falls, the trails are expertly groomed for both skating and classical cross-country skiing. Most trails have tracks set on either side with a wide skating lane in the center. There are also special snowshoeing and single-track trails. They have trails from beginner to expert. The Mountain Trail is popular with experts looking to climb more than 400 feet to the top of the mountain. After enjoying the view into the valley below, get ready for several kilometers of downhill fun!

  Prospect welcomes skiers who want to skin up the mountain and ski down the former alpine trails. Even if you are not using the cross country trails, they do request that you buy a day pass. This helps support the plowing of the parking lot and mowing those downhill trails in the off season.

  Prospect Mountain’s lodge has been a fixture for years, a rustic place to warm up grab some soup and a sandwich and catch your breath. Over the years it has become like a second home, and been decorated by memorabilia and pictures.

  In 2018 Prospect Mountain came under the management of the Prospect Mountain Association (PMA), a Not-for-profit 501(c)3 made up of volunteer members to help steer the future of Prospect.

  Join us for another all-Inclusive vacation at Waterville Valley for five nights. We have reserved every room in the Hotel so anyone you see is either Staff or a fellow TOHG member!

  The trip costs only $592 pp/do and $999 pp/so. The package includes a pizza party on arrival, 5 breakfasts, 4 dinners, and lots of snacks and beverages at our nightly apres ski parties in a reserved gathering spot.

  The downhill ski mountain has all levels of skiing from Greens to Blacks and several nice places for lunch, which is the only time that you will need money during your entire trip. The Ski Touring Center is world class and is within walking distance to the hotel. It has an excellent reputation for all levels of skiers, from beginners to experienced. There are also nearby areas that offer free Snow Shoeing.

  The Silver Fox Inn is conveniently located within walking distance to most everything in the Town Square as well as the Cross-Country Touring Center. Most of the rooms offer two queen beds and there is a limited number of king beds. Included in the rates is a shuttle bus that runs every 30 minutes with a convenient pickup and drop location at the end of the hotel parking lot.

  The area also has the White Mountain Athletic Club; there will be an additional charge to gain access. The club has indoor pools, jacuzzi, indoor tennis courts, free weights and weight room, cardio room, one hour of open skating time at the ice arena, and more.

  The Hotel does not have a Liquor License so we will be allowed to have BYOB for all activities at the hotel.

  We will return to Sugarloaf Mountain Resort in Carrabassett Valley Maine, where we have previously enjoyed the large expanse of varied terrain on the third highest peak in Maine at 4,226 feet.

  We’ll be staying at the Sugarloaf Mountain Hotel. With a design inspired by classic New England farmhouses, the Hotel evokes the warmth of a rustic mountain lodge with the convenience of a modern world-class resort. It’s located on the mountain, with walkable access to the main plaza and several ski lifts. The hotel amenities include ski-lockers, a 30-person outdoor hot tub, fitness center including a steam room and sauna.

  All trails lead to the slope-side of Sugarloaf Alpine Village, which offers several restaurants and shops. In addition to alpine skiing, Sugarloaf also has The Outdoor Center, Maine’s largest Nordic center, for cross-country skiers just minutes from the base area. The lodge has a full Nordic retail shop, rental center, and café. The Sugarloaf Explorer Shuttle provides transportation to that area along its route.

  Once again Lawrencian Ski Club in Bartlett, NH has opened their lodge to the Top of the Hill Gang members. It’s a large, comfortable place with plenty of rooms, large living room for socializing and ample kitchen and dining area.

  All the beds at the ski club are bunk beds. Everyone will have a bottom bunk. NO ROOMS are co-ed – there are separate women’s and men’s quarters. All rooms will have 2 or 3 occupants.

  YOU MUST bring sheets, pillow and a blanket (OR a sleeping bag) and towels. None of these are provided. There are shared baths.

  The plan is for meals to be at the club, but you are free to go out if you wish.

  • Breakfasts: I will bring bagels, English muffins, fruit, juice, peanut butter and jelly, cream cheese, coffee, tea, cream and sugar. Feel free to bring whatever else you’d like.
  • Lunches: on your own.
  • Suppers:
    The first night will be a potluck. Everyone will be asked to bring either a main course, salad or dessert. These will be assigned according to the first letter of your last name. 
    The second night LSC will provide a three course dinner for a fee to those who are interested in staying in. There are many restaurants in the area for those who wish to eat out.

  Both nights will feature a Happy Hour, so BYOB and a snack to share.

  The trip is limited to 20 people. It’s possible that a few more beds might be available. Any responses over 20 will be put on a waitlist

  Four cross country/snowshoe areas are close by: Bretton Woods and Great Glen are about 30 minutes away; Bear Notch and Jackson are about 10 minutes.

  The club is continuing our wonderful tradition of going to the ski-in/ski-out Grand Summit Hotel at Sunday River.

  The resort offers the most terrain in the East with a network that spans eight mountain peaks, providing great options for skiers of all ability levels and preferences. The hotel also offers a large hot tub for those wanting to bask in the sunshine and soothe their muscles at the end of a day on the slopes.

  Additionally, there are wonderful cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and winter hiking options at the nearby Bethel Inn and Carter’s Cross Country Ski areas.

  Lodging will consist of deluxe suites which historically have comfortably accommodated four people. Each suite consists of a bedroom side with two queen beds, and a kitchenette side (which is shared for meals) with a Murphy bed and sofa bed. The sides are separated by a door and each has its own private bathroom.

  Requests for roommates and room style (bedroom or kitchen side) will be addressed on the online registration form. Final rooming assignments will be provided mid-January 2026.

  Note: Depending on the distribution of preferences, it is possible that a small number of requests (kitchen v. bedroom side) may not be able to be honored.  That said, last year only a very small number of such requests couldn’t be met.  Please indicate on your registration if that was the case with you so you can have priority this year. 

  As stated, the block of suites we’ve reserved involves sharing kitchen facilities.  If you wish to book a room that does not require sharing, please reach out to the trip leaders and we will check into availability and pricing.

  Per tradition, we will have nightly social hours, either in one of the suites or by the fireplace in the lower lobby. We’ll also host two group dinners featuring your choice of multiple entrees, side dishes, and a lavish dessert.  One of those dinners will be on our arrival day, Sunday, and the other on Tuesday evening.

  Please register and pay for the trip online by November 1, 2025 to reserve your spot. Payment is by credit card only.

  Lift tickets:

  • Sunday River honors the Ikon Pass.
  • 80+ lift tickets are available for under $10 a week through the Sunday River website.
  • For others, multi-day tickets can be purchased through the website. Historically, for those ordering early, the cost for senior and mid-week tickets has been quite reasonable. Also, we may, as a group, be eligible for a small discount on lift tickets (details to follow).

  Cancellations:

  Cancellations may be made through December 15, 2025 without penalty (less a 3% processing fee). Cancellations after that date are not refundable unless a paid replacement can be found or rooms consolidated. Please see full Cancellation Policy on the TOHG website.

  The 2025 Craftsbury trip will again extend five days this winter. The package includes hot meals buffet style every day and includes fresh local produce and home-style cooking. A vegetarian option is offered at each meal. With notice, the kitchen can accommodate only the following dietary needs: lactose intolerance, dairy-free, vegan, gluten-free, and life-threatening allergies, such as tree nuts.

  Check-in time is 2:30 pm. Check-out time is 10:30 am. Your meals start with dinner on the day of your arrival and end with lunch on the day of your departure.

  Included with your stay & meals is a pass/membership for access to our programs and trail network.

  Please bring a beverage and snack to share at the opening party on Sunday. Our annual Pop-up Book Club will return this year. Morning coffee is always available.

  The trails are classified as moderate and are said to have the best grooming in the Northeast. Rental skis and equipment are available in the Nordic Center.

  The rooms are double occupancy with shared bathrooms.

  Cedar Lodge has a lounge and sauna (remember to pack your bathing suit!).

  The Cedar Lodge TV Room offers satellite TV and has DVD/VCRs.

  Washers and dryers are available for guest use by donation. Refrigerators are available for guest use.

  We also have a Fitness Center, including ergometers and spin bikes in the Activity Center. Sneakers are required.

  Vermont law prohibits smoking in all public buildings.

  • Double Occupancy: US$ 485.00 per person for 5 Nights
  • Single Occupancy: US$ 562.00 per person for 5 Nights

  Package includes all meals, buffet style, and a ski pass providing access to cross country, snowshoe, and hiking trails right outside lodge doors.

  Our 2026 Western trip will be to Palisades Tahoe, located in Olympic Valley, California, the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics. The peak elevation for this ski resort is 9050’ with 2850’ vertical feet of skiing. There are 170 trails with a trail classification breakdown of 25% green, 45% blue and 30% black. We will be staying at the Everline Resort & Spa, which offers ski in/ski out convenience. The hotel is a full-service luxury resort, with restaurants, concierge, fitness center, spa, hot tub and pools, free internet, and room service.
